Cresciano 2007 closed...

Well, thats it for another year. Cresciano completed. Had a great trip and throughly enjoyed myself, and came close but didnt succeed on Le Pilier, it was good to know that I could have done and that it wasnt out of my league. With more time and better skin I feel certain it would have gone down. As James pointed out in the car on the way home last night, there is a difference between 'should have done it' and 'nearly did it' - nearly did it is what people say when they have reduced a problem to sections and thought they were close, whilst should have means it was on but something prevented sendage. I hope that makes sense - I know what I mean!

Have finished uploading the pics which are online at http://www.flickr.com/photos/benmorton/sets/72157594519012129/

Cool photos Mortay and you werent joking about the weather.... looked well warm. A few of those shots with the Palm trees made it look positively mediteranean!!

Seeing shots of Foley bearing down on little crystally crimps also made my fingers tremble with pain....

Glad the trip was a winner, I think regardless of outcome, theres always something positive out of trips away and always a good benchmark of how we are doing generally. Given that we dont have the luxury of all expenses paid and limitless time, there is a heck of a lot of pressure on us climbers particularly to pull a PB out of the bag.

Enjoy the rest and get back to the training! Theres also a big intl bouldering comp at the Works in around 6 weeks time....

I feel your pain Mortonator.
I know you probably don't want to hear this, but have you considered climbing more on grit to improve your skin.
I find when I climb on rough rock regularly my skin 'learns' to rapidly regrow and the fresh skin you get is very good and not prone to splitting.
It stands to reason that if you spend months soley climbing on smooth wood, plastic and the odd bit of polished limestone your skin will be ill prepared for hideously spiny lumps of quartz.
I know some climber avoid climbing on grit because it ruins the skin. This is true for a day or so after (depending on how much you flail), but it grows back fresh and strong. Paradoxically trying to save your skin might have the opposite effect.
I proscribe a weekend out with the goose doctor, tearing down (not too hard) on the grit.

Yours Dr Goose

Oops spazzily pressing the wri=ong keys again.

Hmmm, see what you're saying about the tickets. Not easy. Hard to up the quota after years of one a month. Hobby for the other half might help.....or a baby!!

Aiiiieeee! I got her a cat! she aint gettin no baby yet! We had such a nice time in the sun, and I think some kind of outdoor action would have been ideal before going, but to be honest it has been so wet that I dont know when I wouldhave gotten out anyway.

Getting tickets is difficile. I need to be more forceful perhaps!
